Underlying concepts
As I’m thinking through and developing the research, these are concepts that are in the background.
- I struggle regularly with figuring out what to say. “About waiting with someone.“
- Kairos (Plato) – the idea of knowing timing. I wrote about it in “A little more on timing.”
- Expressive writing – it’s a therapy tool, writing about emotional upheaval. – “Expressive writing.“
- Rhetorical situation
- Systems of rhetoric – I’ve been thinking about speaking for a long time. (My dissertation)
- Dual Process Model
- Deathbed Speech Class

Here’s the public website for the project: Project Information | COVID Bereavement
This is a report of the analysis of two surveys done in the UK about the challenges of bereavement during COVID. They look at 881 responses to the surveys. Part of the framework is a model of coping called the Dual Process Model (DPM).
